Film Stills

Scarface

The angle for the character scarface is from a bird's eye view which enables him to demonstrate his anger and frustration therefore an excellent way to demonstrate the anger and the action. However, for the audience, they are as if the audience are there by a low angle shot and there isn't much lighting to damage the scene where by the use of lighting will help take the audiences attentions away.

Batman

Here this show is effective because the use of back lighting creates suspense as we cannot see the characters facial expressions in addition, this shot is engaging the audience into the film because it is as if Batman is coming to the direction of the audience and also because there is back lighting creates mystery because the audience aren't aware why the character cannot be fully seen and that is also adding to the costume used is black which also creates suspense and tension.

The God Father

The medium shot of the character enables the audience to realize the characters facial expressions and the use of back lighting supports this because the audience cannot see the characters full face and perhaps could show that there is two characters to him dark and evil, good and bad. In addition, the back lighting and the dark background could perhaps be a way of introducing the film.

Film Language - Cinematography

Scarface >original version< (1932)
Directed by Howard Hawks

In the beginning of this extract taken from the movie, the audience acknowledges the use of lighting and the way it has been used for the audience to discover the meaning. The pace in which the lighting has been used of a contrast of light and dark lights connotes two situations or two dilemmas coming together. The use of both lighting's represent good and evil, the good- where the police try to shoot the character down and the evil- where the main character is shooting back and cunning his way out of the situation. After this, a jump cut is made where the audience are forced to focus on something dramatic and according to this extract the beginning scene is a loving moment where the audience do not expect dramatic actions to occur because the lighting used in the beginning scene there is low-key lighting to allow the audience to focus on both characters in the scene and their facial expressions.

Afterwards, there is a P.O.V. shot where the audience gain the view of the character from a high angle this makes the scene more dramatic as the use of lighting makes the audience eager to see what the characters are seeing and by the use of P.O.V shots this is fulfilling their needs in order to gain the best action possible. Therefore, the use of the P.O.V shot is effective to create drama and to mirror the lightings effects by effective editing to create an action pack movie.

This particular scene has only one setting and the drama of the lights and the actual action that is taking place within this scene perhaps shows what type of characters they are and in this particular scene both the man and woman are the perceived to be a big character within the film by the majority of police there are and this adds to the drama of the scene. Another, feature which was interesting was the choreography and the timing in which the actions took place also added to the scenes drama.

Scarface (1972)

The reason I chose the original and the updated Scarface was to show the same movie over a different period of time and as you can see by the trailer of the updated version it is clear the differences. Scarface's narrative has changed to some extent because in the 1932 film you can see the woman was the typical heroine whereas now in the updated version Scarface now has got the female character within the movie but not as much because within the updated version because now it is pure gangster to show the high intensity of violence and to take out any unnecessary glamorous features and allow the audience to focus more on the narrative. As you can clearly see here that the difference from between the 1932 extract and the 1972 extract is the technology and the camera movements and works.

Key Differences

As the trailer begins the audience can see that the differences are the camera work where there are more P.OV shots to allow the audience to engage in the storyline. There are
also more edits such as jump cuts and fades and also the sound effects of the music which was done in post production whereas in the original version there wouldn't have been much difference in post production to enhance the movies narrative. In a addition, the areas in which the updated version had slow motion and the pausing where colours are used and the diegitic and non- diegitic sounds where made in order for the trailer to continue to obtain the audiences attention. Also, the most obvious difference is the lighting which in a way could possibly deteriorating the audience's attention because there is more to look at, whereas in the original version the black and white movies were able to capture the audiences attention's and allowing the audience to face only on the facial expressions.

Lighting and its effects

Suspicion (1941)

The image represents a sense of mystery because the use of low key lighting allows to emphasize he characters facial expression to show what emotion will be carried out throughout that particular scene. In addition, the effects of the lighting when to be specific a lighter shade of light is used in the top right angle of the image this allows the director to portray the distance between the man and the woman here and also allows the audience to acknowledge who the main character is and the use of lighting used on the woman in particular shows she is the dominant character within this image/scene.

A Few Good Men (1992)

The lighting used in this extract was specifically used to portray the main characters as heroes by using back lighting to allow the audience to focus on their facial expressions and also a use of key lighting was definitely essential to the audience as a way of acknowledge the seriousness of the film. In addition, the use of low key lighting in a particular scene where the man is being murdered and where the lighting is coming in from the window, this is used to portray the scene as horrific and sad as possible in order to catch the audiences attentions.

Film Noir

Film Noir is used to make crime dramas in the 1940's and 1950's more stylish and it is used to emphasize actors versatile characteristics in movies to connote two different people by using low key black lighting. By the use of low-key black lighting it allows the audience to acknowledge that there is more to the scene or characters that meets the eye. This is used to add a sense of mysteriousness within the film to keep the audience in somewhat in the 'dark' because if the lighting isn't fully clear then there must be something unusual going on. Film noir used in crime dramas are particularly realistic, in the sense because the colour black used in films connote mystery, suspense and shock or possibly danger. Therefore, film noir used in films allows the audience to be focused in the film without any fancy off putting lighting or allow any unnecessary features within the film to distract the audience. Film noir's representation's in a film are specifically used in crime dramas because the effects in where one character has no lighting on a particular part of their body, this immediately portrays to the audience as something mysterious is going to happen and also film noir is sensationally used to truly emphasize the characters facial expressions and this is why film noir was extremely popular in the 40s and 50s because it allowed to grab hold of the audience's attentions and to consistently keep hold of the audiences focus throughout the film because film noir with low key lighting is not giving away a lot of information for the audience to predict what is about to take place and is exellent way to create a good film.

Mise -en-scene Comparison

Drama/Thriller

Musical

Horror/Thriller

C- The costumes in ‘Deep blue sea’ and ‘Dream Girls’ both represent the genre of the film and the narrative in a way. However, in XxX, there were no costumes used much however, there was a use of hi-tech gadgets, which can appeal to the audience well. In Dream girls, the costumes of a skimpy dress could represent the actors attitude revealed throughout the film. In dreamgirls the hair wigs used represented the costumes and the dress sense of the 60’s.

L- Lighting used in XxX was dark and had different fiery/ hot colours, which could represent Vin DieselJ. In addition, the use of low-key lighting could represent mixed attitudes of the actor (s) in the film. In addition, the use of the bright and fiery colours could connote a fast epic movie, which could bring out the tensions and the build up to the climax could have a high intense finish to the film. In Deep Blue Sea, the lighting used is filler light-, which helps to soften any shadows created by other lights and allows the audience to witness the huge shark in the background and acknowledge the genre, which the film consists of.
A- The actors in the films are not as well known but can be a positive affect on the movie because this will allow the audience to become more engaged in the film and become more focused on the performance.

M- The make-up used in each film poster is not well seen however, in XxX, the audience acknowledges the woman alongside him, and by the make-up, this can add to the storyline by portraying Vin Diesel as the hero.

P-the props used in XxX are not seen, as well as is Deep Blue Sea and in Dream Girls the props used are microphones, which represent the films narrative and genre of a musical.

S- The settings in XxX are in the city of a busy country. Where evil and danger could be lurking right around the corner. The setting of the movie Deep Blue Sea represents the films attributes because the setting was in a isolated area full of sea. The setting of Dream girls was in an uptown place in Las Vegas which is an area where ‘dreams come true’ and a really eye catching busy area.

Still Image analysis

'Changing Lanes' (2002)

C-
Costumes used in this image is smart, to connote the level of professionalism in the film. By using costumes within a film usually is linked with gangster films to hide their identity and maybe this may be the case in the movie. The suits may have been used to also attract a wider audience of an older age due to the suite, which connotes adulthood and maturity. The glasses as well are a good use of costume because it could also back up the point made about suits and how they could hide your identity. In addition, the use of suits could be projecting that both actors could be linked however due to the same clothing there maybe more than meets the eye.

L-lighting the lighting used in this poster is low key lighting within the background to connote a sense of darkness and perhaps evil in the film being portrayed and also the use of the black background could be used to make the audience address the actors rather than the poster itself. The lighting used also has some light on each of the characters faces and a darker side of the other face and again could be reinforcing the movie's title changing lanes and perhaps the other halves of their faces are shown and the rest has dark lighting could create an effect of when the two characters eventually change and due to the lighting they could be met with difficult and evil challenges that lie ahead.

A-
Actors the actors in this film are well know actors and are a good way of attracting a wider audience of preferences such as, gangster, comedy, horror, thriller and drama, and an audience of different races. In addition, the actors are of different race and could connote the film poster's title of changing lanes and perhaps the changes in experience of race. The facial expressions connote a sense of seriousness of the tensions that their facial expressions consist of. The direct view of the actors are in a straight view to create a direct approach at the audience and looking as if they are looking towards them which is a way in which the audience can automatically witness the tensions rising about the films also, the actors that have been on other movies are usually either drama movies or thrillers and this could be a way of attracting a wider audience.

M- Make up- the make up used in this film is very rare to see and perhaps if there was it was maybe to create a simple look and not to attract attention to the actors face or even enhance their features to make the look good and to make them detached and make the audience focus only on their performance as actors.

P- There are no props in the film used in the poster this allows the audience to predict whether the two actors are alongside each other or against each other because the use of props can connote what audience the film is aiming at and maybe the film was to keep it simple and make the audience wonder how the film is going to pan out.

S-The setting of the film is in New York. A film based in a busy city where everybody goes to work which could explain the use of suits in the film poster to show professionalism to everybody but danger underneath and cities are areas which connote darkness and that’s where evil and crime is most likely to be committed, due to the alleyways which shows danger and evil. In addition, the use of cars of each sides of the lane used could again connote a long and dark journey between both actors ‘lanes’.

Target audience: The target audience of the film is to a wide range of audience and aiming towards a mature age. Therefore, the film could be aimed towards ages 15+ -35.

Genre: The genre of the film is drama/thriller which is represented within the film poster, i.e. lighting, facial expressions and also could represent the actors usual genre that they specialize in, Ben Affleck is usually in drama films while Samuel L Jackson is in horror drama and sci-fi.

Type of shot: The type of shot used is medium close up allowing the audience to witness both actors and their facial expressions, and to fit in all the typography used in the film.

Typography: The typography used has a large font to attract the audience and in the style of a lane on the side of a road. This is used to attract the audience and to make to poster eye-catching and link back to the title of ‘changing lanes’ The typography used in grey was eye catching because each word was in an upper case form to really show the films seriousness and the typography used in this matter came across in a threatening way.

Evaluation

KIRAN'S ESSAY

As soon as the trailer starts, the lighting is low key, it stays like this throughout the whole of the trailer, this is because ir is relevent to the genre, the film is a horror film, the darkness creates an intense atmosphear which is necassery, because it informs the viewer that the film is going to be scary. Also, it helps to create shadows, and make the film look more mysterious, which makes you want to watch the film.

As soon as the trailer starts, the lighting is low key, it stays consistent throughout the trailer, create a tense and dark atmosphere and allow the audience become aware immediately what genre the trailer is. The film is a horror film, the editing and use of colors was effective because the black background and the red font connotes 'blood' and the effect of the trailer begins to sustain itself all the way through. The camera angles were also effective by the use of medium close ups and close ups and shots, these shot in particular allowed the audience to be involved within the film because the camera angles is exactly what the audience would have seen if they were there.

MEENA'S ESSAY

The most recognizable feature in this film is the costumes. This is because the costumes show the ethnicity of the people in the production and also shows the culture that should be expected in the movie. An example of this is 1.45 of the production where the clothing and the throwing of the red powder shows the obvious indian tradition of marriage so instantly we astabolish that this movie is Indian based and is going to be based on a love story.

Therefore, we immediately establish what the genre of the film is going to be based upon.

YASMIN'S ESSAY

There are many different features of the trailer that makes it a successful trailer.
Firstly the sound of the trailer attracts the audience in even more closer than they already are, there is a use of Diegetic and non- Diegetic sound. The use of both of these sounds in the trailer is very successful, as by the audience listening to the diegetic sound it helps them to understand more clearly what is going on in the trailer. Also the dialogue language used in the trailer is referred to as slang, for example:
“you think you’re bad yeah… Show me what you got”

Trailer Analysis #3

Face of Fear

The title itself 'Face of Fear' connotes the theme of horror violence dramatic scenes. Face of Fear could also connote a character that represents fear. The sound used was different music and wasn't mainstream which sounded like a background theme meaning the events of the trailer could be the actual acts or meaning to the rest of the song. The sound was just a background beat and there was drums and it was building up and the sound of the background music was deep leading to a climax.

The lighting of the trailer and the beginning institution that was used, Warner Bros pictures was dark lighting. The use of the dark clouds were all conventions used to create a frightening climax to the trailer in order to fulfill the titles credentials. The dark clouds connotes dark and intensifying trailer.

The Mise-en-scene used in the trailer was the costumes which where not items in which represent horror such as ripped and blooded clothing it was a casual theme which creates a sense of a pulsating trailer because the attitude and first impressions where normal and this will be able to add to the audiences reactions of seeing everyday normal people to be murdered.

The setting of the trailer was in a backyard and specifically a shed in which one of the characters came out of the shed with an axe.Which was convenient for the genre of the trailer to appear in an area where a possible murder could take place. The actors' expressions were shocked expressions which went well along with the background music which began to speed up and build up the excitements and the tensions. The make-Up used for the main character was black eye-liner used all around the eyes where the character can emphasize his expressions well.

The Editing used in the trailer was cut and fade in and out at a slow pace the camera movements were low and at times zoomed in and out.

The appeal of the film is probably aimed at over 15's- 35 possibly a younger audience due to the age of the characters it is more likely to be aimed at a young audience who find horror films interesting and entertaining.

The Representation of the film is horror and the trailer provided the features of what a horror trailer should establish such as the music the camera angles and the editing.

Overall, I thought the trailer was excellent exceeded expectations of what is needed for a horror trailer. what i particularly liked was the acting skills was excellent especially of the main character the music and the timing went especially well with the acting skills to provide a thrilling horror trailer.

Saving Faith

.....Voted best horror thriller trailer at the 2008 Media Awards....

x.. Costumes..x

The costumes within the trailer have more of a street theme to it which connotes the target audience of the trailer and the trailer also had one of the actors wearing a suit to possibly show what characters they are and to add some sort of gangster act to the trailer. Films like these have suits whilst committing crimes e.g. Godfather. The hoodies connote the area the movie is likely to be located and represents the youth culture which will be appealing to their audience.

x..Sound..x

The sound in the trailer was slow and began to build showing how much tension there was in the film and shows the dramatic scenes within the film. The sound was relevant in terms of audience because the sound will allow the audience to relate to sound and they become more aware of the film and become more interested.

x..Camera...x

The camera angles in the trailer had a range of shots e.g. medium shots and close ups were used on various occasions to show the facial expressions of the actors to create a more effect to the film. Mise en scenes were used to show all events taking place is the trailer to get an outline on whats going on in the trailer. The use of camera movement was good because they focused on different areas of location and the actors body language throughout.

x..Props..x

The props used were guns. By using guns in a film it creates an impression on the audience and attract audiences who are involved in gun crime or are victims or working /living in a gun vulnerable area allowing more people to watch the trailer.

x..Lighting..x

The lighting used was dark in some areas of the film to connote evil and dangerous things. The part where the fire burning and the part where the actor was standing outside his house showed the dramatic scenes the film was going to have. The dark lighting showed the dramatic scenes taking place.

Representation > Youth culture, Young audiences from deprived areas.

Sound: The sound used was specific to it's target audience. The O.S.T in the trailer was Bashy- an underground recording artist (from Kidulthod to Adulthood) theres also a lot of noise used from guns being fired, people being beaten up. All of these components used was all linked to the culture that is taking part within the outskirts of London.

Camera Shots- There are several counts of medium to close shots focusing specifically on the actors' facial expressions, and mise en scenes to allow as much action into a shot as possible within the trailer in order to allow the audience to get an insight on what the film has to offer

Media Awards 2008

The three films that I have reviewed and liked the most was:

Face of Fear
What I liked about this trailer was that the concept of the trailer was affective and the acting skills were excellent especially the 'Killer' himself the effort of the film was excellent aswell and the music was spot on and the editing and the use of camere angles were good because the trailer was able to scare you and fullfilled all the aspects of a horror trailer.

Herbal Remedy
This Documentary was affective because the production wasn't just an immature way to promote drugs it really put the point forward of how harmful drugs are for you. I also felt that the interview with a guy was affective and was an example of how bad drugs are for you. The editing was excellent because they really took advantage of different ways drugs are harmful. The sound was perfect timing and you could see the effort placed within the film

Asian Invasion
This particular film was on that really stood out. The information about the documentary was good the editing was good timing the music also fiited in well with the documentary itself.

This competition is the perfect way to help us begin our ambitions and bring people together. The reason we chose such a competition like this is that crimes like these are exactly what is going wrong within London communities today. A survey that we had made on 13-18 yr olds in London was: 43% read music magazines 13% read car magazines and 44% of teenagers had said that they read magazines which include competitions where they are able to do something different or win something for their school, community and each other. So young people have necessity to achieve something and with the help of Nike, we can achieve that. For the competition the winners are able to justify to our readers that these crimes are unacceptable and also make other teenagers to understand how Nike are able to give back to the community and help. The value of the competition at Nike iD would be for a double page spread would be 45,500 pounds.

As you can see here the newspapers, performance on average has not been excellent in comparison to what newspapers like The Sun produce. The main reason behind this decline in newspapers is the economy. People do not want to buy newspapers especially quality newspapers, which are more compact and have more information inside them to purchase, the front pages in all the national newspapers are similar, and all talk about the credit crunch. Another reason why newspapers are not performing so well is because of e-media. People do not need to go out and purchase newspapers when it is cheaper on the internet and it is more convenient for the consumer.

Internet Regulations Task

What are the issues surroundung the Internet?

When you are able to access any website without restriction. Any forms of plagerism can happen and go unnoticed therefore dispite the consequences plagerism still and will always exist. When certain websites are made for tthe public such as Wikipedia- you are able to edit the information as you please and possibly convert the different information into possibly offensive language and which people decide not to use Wikipedia as it ha such wide range of consumers that rely on that website to produce them with accurate information. Which is why using the internet and allowing traditional consumers to become producers should be restricted to a certain point because anything placed on one of the major popular sites i.e. Bebo. Should they allow complete freedom to broadcast or advertise music which is offensive and disturbing to music fans in general? Should users be allow to post up any picture they want with could symbolize racism?

The problems in which in these circumstances could occur is that if a major amount of people are contributing to such terrible and encouraging behaviour the internet sites themselves could find that in order to salvage their reputaion they may have to close down their site temporarily and from then onwards it could have a detrimental effect and may lose their loyal consumers and therefore their brand will become damaged.

The way in which regulation should be monitored is to have sensors of in appropriate words or when posting up a picture of post to someone it during the process of waiting will the content actually sends during that time the content could be sent to the site hierachy and can be checked whether it is appropriate or not and restrict people from offending people and using their site as a way in which it is allowed to offend peolple.

An anthropological introduction to YouTube

0:00 - Introduction, YouTube’s Big Numbers

Stephen Weiswasser (from ABC) said "You aren't going to turn into passive consumers into active controllers of the internet" ABC started broadcasting in 1948- third major network. 1948-2008 60 yrs of broadcasting. If those major 3 broadcsating networks have been programming every day and every hour for the next 60 yrs that comes to 1.5 million hours of programming.YouTube had produced more than that in the past 6 months by the help of consumers uploading videos. >9232 hours of uploaded videos posted on YouTube each day. > 200,000 3 minute videos.> 88% of the content uploaded onto YouTube is new and original

2:00 Numa Numa and the Celebration of Webcams
"Numa Numa" a song by O-Zone; was a big hit in 2003 the song had travelled to from Japan to New Jersey, USA. from that moment onwards a teenager named Gary Brolsma known as “The Numa Numa Guy” he had made his own video using his webcam and miming the song "Numa Numa" Gary Wolker said that Brolsma's video sigle handedly justifies the existence of webcames.
February 2005 YouTube is just being created and on April 23rd 2005 the 1st video had been posted. At first it was difficult to upload videos on YouTube however, when "Numa Numa" was made that then allowed 58,000 people from across the globe to upload their own videos.

5:53 - The Machine is Us/ing Us and the New Mediascape

Michael Wesch had thought what was the gap from text on paper to digital text and what it really means. It was about linking people and linking to people in ways that could have never been accomplished before.
Almost every 6 months their is a new tool that can connect us in many ways. We are integrated in the Mediascape. We are the centre of the Mediascape because when media changes and evolves and develops we change and our relationships with other people change. Which then demostrate what Wesch is trying to say is that media is not just a tool of communicating with people and that their are many ways in which communication could be sent and recieved e.g. through Microsoft Hotmail; which could be to consumers more reliable and satisfied with how Hotmail is used.

12:16 - Introducing our Research Team
Every spring there are about 10 students who study the videos on YouTube watch a video on one part of the screen and on the other have a data uploading page on the other half of the screen. Anytime the students are watching videos they are able to take notes and upload data on the database which they analyise.

12:56 - Who is on YouTube?
25% of videos feature 35 and over
25% of videos feature teens 12-17

13:25 - What’s on YouTube? Charlie Bit My Finger, Soulja Boy .etc.
The most commonly uploaded videos were actually home videos and example of this would be "Charlie Bit My Finger". Most videos are viewed less than 100 times. "Charlie Bit My Finger" was viewed over 30 million times. Many videos made are either redone ones of the original video or a remixed version and is made at least 2,00 times. 15% of videos on YouTube are redone or remixed versions of an original one e.g. Crank Dat Soulja Boy remixed into - Crank That Spiderman, Lion King, Superman etc.

17:04 - 5% of vids are personal vlogs addressed to the YouTube community, Why?

Vlogs are video blogs made by an individual and uploaded onto YouTube. Why? because of the tools of comunications that are now available to us. We the producers are able communicate with a vast majority of people on YouTube by different kinds of virtual communities being formed so they can be able to have their say on a certain issues or just directly allow people to watch and listen to what they have to say. I believe that the actual 'producers' who are uploading themselves and allowing thier identity to be shown to strangers across the globe and have access to your personal information i.e. name, country, town etc. Then there must be a sense of trust or that could show despite allowing total strangers to know who you are; shows how much they value having their say and how much they value being part of a community.

17:30 YouTube in context. The loss of community and "networked individualism" (Wellman)

When women join the workforce their is less free time. Moving from small groceries stores to supermarkets connotes a sense of lack of communication and people are no longer shopping together.

18:41 - Cultural Inversion: individualism and community.

-Becoming increasing individual but stil value our community
we become increasingly independant and therefore overtime become reliant on relationships. YouTube becomes the center of this where people are posting up 1 by one on the same topic and therefore creates a community. However, Robert Putnam said "meeting in an electronic forum is not the equivalent of meeting in a bowling alley” which is true and also similar for the saying that watching somebody sing live on television isn't the same as watching it live.

19:15 - Understanding new forms of community through Participant Observation.

Michael Wesch greed with Robert Putnam’s statement when some of his students participating in uploading videos themsleves.

21:18 - YouTube as a medium for community.

Marck Wesch and his students went back to the idea that when media changes human relation changes e.g. through uploading videos via webcam.
One video was made by one of Wesch's students talking at her webcam rather than the users of YouTube although when someone views the video they would assume she speaking to them about an issues and begin a community from there.

23:00 - Our first vlogs

People tend to post up blogs difficult as they wouldn't know what to speak about or become conscious of how they will be viewed by certain communties within YouTube and therefore can break down comunities.

26:05 - Re-cognition and new forms of self-awareness (McLuhan)

The vlog that you have created you will then look back later sometime in your life and assess how your behaviour was like and how people have percieved you.

27:58 - The Anonymity of Watching YouTube: Haters and Lovers

The idea of anonymity on YouTube is that you are able to write however you please whether offensive or not you do not know who could be writing those things.
This then allows the idea of the fact that YouTube is about “Freedom to experience humanity without fear or anxiety” said Wesch.
When watching YouTube videos you are watching people without staring at them because you are watching them over a screen. and before the clip has actually finnished you may already have judged them.

29:53 - Aesthetic Arrest

People may be shocked to what they see in someone's vieo e.g. someones talents singing or looks etc. In reality it would be deemed as unusual to intervene with someone but because you are in your own home and do not know them you can stare.

30:25 - Connection without Constraint

YouTube allows us to be connected with other people across different parts of the world with different people and cultures and maybe even your own therefore creating some sort of understanding for as long as you like with many people by sharing the same views and opinions.

This goes to show that "media does not just distance us but it keeps us connected in a different way” which is an advantage for YouTube being the ideal service provider for these kinds of needs; because YouTube will still be a global brand.

32:35 - Free Hugs: A hero for our mediated culture
A social movement when Juan Mann walked around Sydney, Australia with a sign saying “FREE HUGS” video of this was made, then uploaded onto YouTube where it now has nearly 30 million views. The campaign has now become global and people have made videos of themselves campaining.

Web 2.0

What is web 2.0?

web 2.0 is the meaning of using different ways in which using 'WORLD WIDE WEB's technology and using web design that aims to help people'es creativity whilst using the internet e.g. while producing a website in order to customize or use ' HTML' web 2.0 is the tool which can allow to add features on to a website.

Web 2.0 also helps people when they want to share information. Web 2.0's ideas have helped developing the service of using the web. Using Web 2.0 has also helped building sites people use each day e.g. social networking sites e.g. Bebo,MySpace & Facebook also video sharing websites e.g. YouTube. The idea 1st emerged to O'reily Media- ( a media company)
Here is a video explaining exactly what web 2.0 is.

What is the difference between web 1.0 & 2.0

Web 1.0 - is just text not interactive. Web 1.0 is a much slower process. Whilst using web 1.0 there was always a sense of unreliability for example on social networking sites placing your personal information only visible to their friends may nit be protected.Web 1.0 was also a restriction as people couldn't use the internet to it full ability. Web 2.0 however consists of a more fast process and is not just text it can include graphics aswell and is more dynamic in which all ages are able to adjust to. Consumers are gaining more out of the internet and on a regular basis and are able to become the producers themselves by contributing different ideas and allowing people to use those sites aswell.

Here are some example on how exactly Web 1.0 has progressed to Web 2.0.

Double Click ---> Google Adsense

Britannica Online ---------> Wikipedia

Personal Websites ---------> Blogging For example on creating personal website web 1.0 was simple straight forward information where exploring the website was normally slow and restricted. However, with web 2.0 you have a more dynamic use of web pages e.g. inserting your own music player & pictures also commenting on pictures etc. (MySpace, FaceBook and YouTube)

How does this affect you as a media student, consumer and producer?

This affects me in a positive way knowing that web 2.0 is more reliable and effective and can contribute a lot in how you are able to publish your information to people and what I do like about web 2.0 is that you are in control and it is easy to become the producer rather than the traditional consumer. As a media student however. I think that when it comes to researching different platforms of media it will be much more difficult to find because of the vast majority of people relying on E-Media rather than on Television and on Newspapers etc. It is more diffiicult to learn how each of these industries are able to publish their information to people but may not be succesfull. For example the Music industry is not coping with the huge numbers of people downloading music and not having to pay for it through sites like iTunes or even just going out and buying the CD itself, and the Music industry are not able to prevent people to stop downloading music for free as it is damaging how they are able to make profits to fund for music in the future. Therefore in that sense as a media student being able to find out how well each media platform is performing maybe a difficult process. As a consumer I could possibly face problems similarly to the example above as I may not be able to keep my content published restricted from everyone as technology has developed over the forthcoming years where you have your own music on your web page someone listening wouldnt want to pay for the copy of the music they are able to record and convert into an Mp3 content.
